Keeping kiddos busy the stay at home way

Some of us are at home with the kids more than ever which means we’ve had to get creative with our activities. Whether we’re teaching the little ones to bake (bound to come in handy further down the line) or playing board games with the whole fam, we’ve been sharing our ideas with the rest of the community.

On Monday, we asked you for your tips on keeping the kiddos busy and active while they’re staying home and, as always, you did not disappoint. We’ve had tons of great suggestions. Here are just a few of our faves:

savvy circler Emmal01 has realised the importance of getting outside into nature:

Getting fresh air everyday has been important, my daughter moans about being dragged out, but always admits it was fun after, as we get chance to chat & play a games.

savvy circler traceyjy has been getting all nostalgic in the new normal. She said:

I have been teaching my daughter different skills like the ones I used to do many years ago. She has learnt how to knit and is making excellent progress knitting baby clothes. She also shows her friends on social media how to do it and they have all taken it up.

savvy circler Ciara1982 has even been helping other parents by holding cookery comps!

I have been running a small cookery competition with my child's primary school. I have been able to get a few local companies to donate some small prizes and every week the kids upload what they have baked. It is then judged by the local business owners. The kids love baking and showing off what they have baked. It's great fun and actually really easy to set up!

Drum roll please….It’s decluttering time

Next week, we’ll be talking all things clutter, decluttering to be precise. If you’ve already got your spring-cleaning efforts sorted then share your top decluttering tips with your followers and the rest of the community. Our favourite shares will be featured on the blog so don’t forget to tag #StayWellStayHome and @supersavvymeofficial in your posts and share URLs with us.

We are playing everyday in our garden, we are doing paintings with different themes.

If its not been used in last 6 month do you need then let some one else get use out of it and clears any un needed clutter. Best way . Kids usually help by doing their own things . Best way to declutter without tears.

My boy is free to choose what he want to do outside. He enjoys digging in the garden, he makes his own puddles and have lots of fun jumping in, he’s painting stones and relaxing under his tree.

We are making towers with blocks and then break them with ball, make boats and aeroplanes with paper, balloons and attached them with toddler cycle, playing hide and seek , my toddler becomes masha and I will be near, acting on rhymes, jumping on the bed and act like monkeys, counting everything from fingers to colours, book pagea, cheese pieces.

Because I am disabled and hubby is getting over a mini stroke we have had to do this slowly, but, saying that, I have sorted out my 'airing cupboard' it's actually the shelf part of my wardrobe, I have gained a complete shelf, used a previous bathroom cabinet, i have got rid of all unwanted, binned the super king duvet and replaced it with a king size and covers to suit, we have gutted the bathroom, todays task has been to sort the cupboard that houses the washing machine and lots of cleaning things, just sat down to recoup some energy, then going back to finish the job, yes feeling very tired but also very pleased with all that has been done

Selinadavidson • 22/05/2020 - 16:28

We’re keeping busy by starting everyday with a family run/walk/jog or bike ride and ending everyday the same 🥰 keeps the kids and us active and blows the cobwebs off before school work and afterwards, absolutely loving getting to explore the area we live in that we’ve always just taken for granted whilst driving past before 🤩

Got jealous of seeing people selling on ebay I decided to declutter and put things on sale as well. I must say that I found it very rewarding and helped me clear the house of clutter .

iwasthere22 • 22/05/2020 - 21:33

PE with Joe Wicks is a big hit in our house and a great way to start the day 👍👍 We also make sure time is spent outside in the garden, helps keep the Vitamin D up

MissMary • 25/05/2020 - 09:50

Dear savvy circler iwasthere22, thank you for sharings, sounds nice! 🌞

I have 3 children, so I find if I go through their toy boxes every couple of months and throw away any broken toys and send the non used working toys to the charity shops it clears up a lot more space for other things. And roll up all the clothes in every draw to create more space.

Robynalexevena • 23/05/2020 - 09:20

We have been doing lots of arts and crafts, having movie nights, playing in the garden and of course home education.

Iosif • 23/05/2020 - 19:10

We planted new flowers and we changed the soil to the old ones. We painted the pots and few stones. Also we organised a lot of activities in our garden.

popikaoana • 25/05/2020 - 11:45

My little one keeps me very active as he has lots of ideas of how to spend time together. He paints a lot and dares me to create some original paintings or we play board games, like Activity.

Nimki • 25/05/2020 - 21:38

Our little one likes to play with water very much. So, we have made a routine to water our plants everyday in the evening & although she is only 20 months old she enjoys this task upto the fullest. We have also sown some Coriander & Fenugreek seeds recently which have started sprouting. Arya is too small to know about growing our own herbs etc. but the fact that she enjoys watering them & that we enjoy her seeing happy & content is the best thing during this stressful period of time.

My two sons, (eight and six years old) and I will be moving home before August (fingers crossed). We are all being brutal about what to pack and what to give to charity. I ask them what they want their new bedrooms to look like and draw pictures of what they want to see and what they think they no longer need that someone else might love. When we lose motivation we look at pictures and visit our new house now the lockdown has lifted. And because it's a new area that we don't really know, we go for walks to get familiar with where everything is. They love making dens in the nearby woods because it's new and exciting!

Karina1984 • 26/05/2020 - 12:19

We've been keeping the kids busy by making cheesecake for charity.
Every slice of cheese cake sold £1 is donated to the NHS.
Kids love making then, delivering to people in our village while out exercising and if they are lucky they get a slice. £200 raise in the last 4 weeks.
