Our Olay questions answered.

Exclusive Olay Total Effects Sensitive product test on the Savvy Circle

Over the course of our project for Olay Total Effects Sensitive Moisturiser we have been asked numerous questions about the product. Most we have been able to answer ourselves, but for some we've needed to go to our contacts at the brand to ask for their expert advice!

So, without further ado, here are the (very few) questions that we have fed back to Olay during our project, along with their respective answers:

Q. Can I use a serum underneath of Olay Total Effects Sensitive Moisturiser?

A. Moisturisers can be used alone, or on top of a serum. If you use a serum with your usual moisturiser, then you can continue to do that with the Olay Sensitive.

Q. Should I apply sunscreen before or after applying Olay Total Effects Sensitive Moisturiser?

A. The moisturiser should go on first, then the sunscreen on top.

Q. Can Olay Total Effects Sensitive Moisturiser be used along with the Olay Regenerist kit (Microdemerbrasion & mini peeling ) or is it a standalone product?

A. Olay Total Effects Sensitive Moisturiser contains an SPF 15, and therefore would be suitable to use after Regenerist Microdemerbrasion & mini peeling kit (as a moisturiser containing SPF is recommended after using this).

Hopefully, if you've been wondering any of these questions yourself, these expert answers will have been able to help you!

@all: Have you been able to help somebody out with advice about Olay Total Effects Sensitive Moisturiser having read our project handbook, blog and been an active project participant for the best part of two months?

Definitely, just returned from a week in Tenerife and I can honestly say this face cream was a life saver, i have really sensitive skin and eyes and sun cream etc gives me prickly heat and nips my eyes, so you can imagine the state of me! This time however I used Olay on my face, I have a lovely colour and had no nipping eyes.. LOVE IT! I lucky had a couple of samples with me and passed onto those who were having the same problems.. They loved it as well.. I am definitely a big fan!

:D

Might have hit a snag! Came out in a rash 2 weeks ago & thought it was my hair conditioner as I had just changed it, stopped using it for 1 week & rash didnt clear so changed shampoo and stopped using olay 7 days ago, rash settled down so I thought I would try to eliminate the olay by putting some on today, one hour in and face is tingling & itching. Really dont want it to have been olay that caused it as up until I got the rash I was loving the cream :( The rash was quite bad, all my face & ears went scaley & my face started to puff up, my hands & forearms were really itchy too, which is why I thought it might have come from the conditioner. Face burning now, so off to wash it off!! :( :( :(

Loubeylou • 14/03/2012 - 15:34

Yes I have. One of the girls I work with was looking for a new moisturiser, she has sensitive skin and wanted something to make her skin glow so I mentioned the White Tea. Worked a treat she loved it. I always tell people exactly what the ingredients are there for.

jmtcar • 14/03/2012 - 19:28

i wouldnt say i have helped anyone out but i did say to my friends that i found sometimes my face felt sticky but it wasnt the olay it was certain face washs or soap that used before applying olay.and great news tesco are now selling olay products at half price so now on to using smoothing face scrub i honestly didnt know how much olay products were out there till i started the project.

landlord • 14/03/2012 - 21:34

had a small outbreak of spots on forehead and chin which i dont normally suffer from. Apart from that, loved how smooth my face feels after using it

twixmars • 15/03/2012 - 07:24

Morning All
I can be pretty sure i know what my daughter has got me for Mother's Day, she says it's something i don't stop talking about, so it must be Olay! :D

rose1001 • 15/03/2012 - 08:59

I have consulted the leaflet several times to show people what is in the product and have found it very useful. I have gone back to my old product (No7) as I found that this Olay didn't suit my skin, I am disappointed but it has been a big hit for 9 out of the 10 people I gave samples to which is fantastic.

GingerTom • 15/03/2012 - 09:05

I'm really enjoying using this and will definitely buy it when I run out. My skin tone appears to be more even, it's definitely well moisturised and, as I've said in an earlier comment, my wrinkles (especially on my forehead) appear much less harsh than they did.

I really love this stuff. I'm sorry for the other Savvy Circle members who've found that it doesn't suit their skin.

bUFFPUFF • 15/03/2012 - 09:07

I recently gave one of my tester's a face massage with the help of Anastacia's insider infomation on anti-ageing massage. Now she is ready to use gentle pressure and simple movements before she was giving it a good old rubbing and was missing out on getting the full benefit of the whole experience. She already says her face feels really relaxed and has a nice plump healthy look and feel.

kareeena • 15/03/2012 - 09:07

I got an outbreak of spots a few days after starting to use the moisturiser and felt quite disappointed. But, I carried on using it and within a fortnight my skin was back to normal . For others who have had an outbreak I would suggest sticking with it for a bit longer and see if your skin adjusts.
This moisturiser has been amazing at tackling my dry skin on my chin. It is the best all rounder I have found. Love it !!

SarJo17 • 15/03/2012 - 09:10

I liked this product, it's nice but not amazing, I'm not sure where the "7 signs of ageing" part comes in as I still look 41 (boo hoo, no fountain of youth in a bottle then, thought I'd be back in my mid 30s by now). I also thought it seemed a little pricey and I have run out before the end of the testing period. On the other hand, my mother does think it is amazing so I will be buying her a bottle (and utilisng my vouchers) as a little extra for her birthday.

twixmars • 15/03/2012 - 09:46

OMG the pic i sent in looks as though i have a monobrow, i promise you it's my fringe!

lisa1878 • 15/03/2012 - 10:00

I started using Olay total effects sensitive protection a few weeks ago and came out in a itchy, red, blotchy rash, thought it may have been the face powder or brush I was using so changed them both. The rash continued so stopped using Olay and rash went after a few days. Thought I would try it again, but the rash returned so had to stop using it. Rash has now gone.

dani • 15/03/2012 - 10:08

@twixmars: That's what they all say! :) Only joking; thanks a lot for the pic!

michrose • 15/03/2012 - 10:29

I have had to stop using the cream for awhile. I have come out in spots on my chin and nose, which I never usually get. It could be stress as we are due to move house soon. So I will wait and few days and see if they go and then try using it again.

Chaucer • 15/03/2012 - 10:41

Just received my neighbours feedback, aged 29 has great skin, considers herself to have sensitive skin, never uses anti-ageing products, did not feel need for product that fihgts the signs of ageing, felt it was v important that it strengthens sensitive skin - I did mention the white tea- as with my other testers found spf15 very important, was happy to recommend to 4 family friends, 2 friends and 2 of her colleagues.
I think she has decided not to mention to her friends as they are all similar age to her...oh to be young, wrinkle free

AngelOcean • 15/03/2012 - 10:45

I really love this product but then my skin is very dry and sensitive. I have used another product containing green tea but it was double the price and the results were not so apparent. I always use a SPF cream on top of my moisturiser so the fact that this product included a SPF 15 is great news - although I would prefer a higher level for the summer days.My skin feels healthy, more hydrated and is glowing but unfortunately I dont look any younger :(
My sister used this product and she has greasy/combination skin and she did comment that she found this cream too heavy for her skin as it gave her spots which she did attribute to using the cream. So good news for me but my sister is not convinced.

1958 • 15/03/2012 - 11:22

I am still loving using it. I have had a small breakout of spots around my chin area, which is my first since starting the project so thats good and hopefuly it will clear up soon. I am going for a facial tonight. I will be interesting to see if the therapist notices. I go every six weeks as my skin used to be very poor and I do a lot of cycling which is great for the body but not too kind on the skin.

chillimaz • 15/03/2012 - 11:50

Since i have run out of this and at mo cant afford to buy it, my skin is so dry now:( even with using my normal olay, my skin feels itchy now and sore :( i hope it gets better soon

Laura75 • 15/03/2012 - 11:57

I have recommended it to loads of people! I have super-sensitive skin so finding a skin cream that not only moisturises but also evens out and tones my skin and doesn't make me go red, blotchy or rashy has been brilliant. I, therefore, feel really enthusiastic about the product and have been sharing my experience of it with all and sundry. I know a few people who either have sensitive skin or do not like to use products that are scented or have other harsh ingredients in them so I have been able to tell them all about the product. I did have a bit of a hiccup early on in the project with my skin feeling itchy when I used the Olay but my skin seems to have adjusted now and I have not experienced that for some weeks now. I have had lots of compliments about how fresh and glowing my skin looks - including a comment from a total stranger - which means that the results are definitely visible.

Lilac123 • 15/03/2012 - 12:56

Have had a lot of good feedback on the face massage technique included in the Olay pack. Good thinking to include this kind of information which I have used to assit me when demonstrating the product. Testers really got tuned in the science bit when there is a practical demonstration on how to apply and massage the face. Great work supersavy team and Olay!

Sarahbee2 • 15/03/2012 - 13:08

I have bought both my mam and mother-law the full size cream for mother’s day as they both loved the sample size. This is the first face cream my mam has ever used and she is 57! I’ve got her hooked now! Not getting I bought myself a new one too for when mine runs out, we can’t forget ourselves :-)

http://sarahjanesobsessions.blogspot.com

27boston • 15/03/2012 - 13:25

Was unsure about the Olay to begin with as it made my forehead feel really greasy and I came out in spots however I did continue using it & after the inital set back my skin feels super smooth! Have found I don't need to apply quite as much as I did at the beginning of the trial probably as my skin is now hydrated!

lildan • 15/03/2012 - 13:30

Still loving the effects of this product, my skin is glowing and feels incredibly soft. I only put a very thin layer on each morning and then again in the evenings and have not had any adverse reactions like some of the other testers on this blog. I never wear foundation so my moisturiser is very important and for me ...this one works.

4kumars • 15/03/2012 - 14:14

Finally met up with the mum,s at the skool run !!! Managed a quick coffe and caught up with the progress with the OLAY ....... using it with all the passion possible 'cant believe how good the other five mom's look !!!! Questions I need to ask ..... How r u finding the moisturiser ? Any irritations redness or un easy feeling on your skin ?
Exellent in all areas ! So glad you gave us the samples along side with our money off vouchers , love using this product .

pinkfee • 15/03/2012 - 14:16

Hi Pggz,

I have kept up my cleansing/toning etc routine finishing with the olay. I do see a difference in my skin. It is softer, smoother, fine lines plumped, more even in tone and texture and generaly feels a lot better and has more of a healthy dewy glow.

So after completing my routine the other day I said to my husband,
" I am really pleased with this cream, my skin feels so much better!", he glances at me. I then go on to add "can you tell there is a difference?". He glances at me again and says nothing.

I then ask with a big smile on my face, "Do I look ten years younger?"
He glances at me and says "no!".
I am struggling here "5 years?".
"NO" he says.
Right "3 years? (big smile),
" no" he says.
Right I am really looking for a positive result,
" 18 months? (extra big smile).
Husband looks up again with a straight pan face and says,
"JUST KEEP APPLYING IT".

Well! How loved am I?

irishcath • 15/03/2012 - 16:51

Hello Savvy, sorry not been in touch for abit I haven't been well !:)

I am still using my moisturiser though and what can I say it's still fab. And I have got the girls at work raving about it so Thank You Savvy for changing the conversation in staff room!!!
I seem to be getting good feed back with the samples I passed out to folk.

So it's all good in the this neck of the woods and my skin is still glowing - yippeeeeeee xxxx

purplerobbo • 15/03/2012 - 20:58

Although I do like the product and it makes my skin feel really good, I don't feel like it has made a significant impact on the appearance of my skin. I have used the product morning and night, and I think I would probably buy it after the trial.

Ravengrave • 15/03/2012 - 21:13

I've been using the product now for 4-5 weeks and given out samples, reactions have been mixed. I myself like the moisturiser as it doesn't 'sting' & after a night out & forgetting to take my make-up off it helped calm my skin the next day. However I haven't noticed any real changes to my skin, in fact this week I developed a small rash which I haven't experienced before, don't know if its the cream or not.
My mum tried the cream and liked it but didn't feel it offered anything more than what she uses. My sister just couldn't cope with how light the cream was, she likes to feel that moisturised feeling. A big point with most people is the rrp, they feel its too expensive.

Fontsie_72 • 15/03/2012 - 22:28

I've really enjoyed taking part in this project. What has really surprised me is that a lot of my friends don't actually use moisturiser..it's part of my routine and I really need the moisture added to my skin, so took it for granted that everyone uses products!! Another thing that I find intereting is that my younger friends (who do moisturise) aren't worried about using anti-anging products but this is a must for my older friends.

blueskier • 15/03/2012 - 22:44

I've found the same, Fontsie - I thought everybody used a moisturiser, and that people aged 35+ would use anti-ageing products, but they don't. And most comment that it doesn't feel sufficiently different from other Olay products, or that the full price seems expensive. So its good to hear that some of you out there are amazed by how good it is, as that's not the feedback I'm getting.

bellydancertot • 16/03/2012 - 07:22

well here we are seven weeks now & still using Olay sensitive, i can not find anything negative about this product & have now switched to using this all the time.
the results are great, my skin is looking so much healthier, even younger with the reduced appearence of wrinkles & my skin tone is so much more even.
thank you so much for giving me the chance to try out this great product.

deebrad69 • 16/03/2012 - 09:00

After coming out in a red rash after a week or two of using the moisturiser I decided to stick it out and continue using. However four weeks further in and I am still suffering from tingling and itching especially around my jawline and cheeks. I know there is only a couple of weeks left and my bottle is almost empty but I think I will stop using it now and let my skin recover, sorry but I did persevere as long as I could :-((

bargainbin • 16/03/2012 - 09:24

I’ve really enjoyed taking part in this project.
What has really surprised me is that anumber of my friends do not have time to use moisturiser!!
.it’s part of my routine and I really need the moisture added to my skin, so took it for granted that everyone uses products!!
My younger friends aren't bothered about anti - aging products. One actually said they were a con but most of my older friends use anti aging creams.
I have suffered two outbreaks of spots but on the plus side the wrinkles on my forehead have disappeared! :-))

cjanoam • 16/03/2012 - 09:54

love the moisturiser...it's great and definitely helps the uneven skin tone but reduce the price...i'm sure olay would have many many more takers if the price were lowered

Suzika • 16/03/2012 - 11:17

totally loving this moisturiser - i usually need to use hydrocortisone when i get my period as my face flares up but not this month - its stayed calm and felt supple - not what im used to at all for those 3-4 days. Olay have potentially changed a life here!!!

singhisking • 16/03/2012 - 15:38

I've really enjoyed this project. My colleagues are all thrilled with their samples. Initially i had a few spots when i started using the moisturiser. I stuck with it and after two weeks my skin cleared up and it looked more even toned than before. Thank you Olay and Savvy Circle.

rose1001 • 16/03/2012 - 16:14

I don't know where to post this request but is it possible, please, to have a "remember me" or "keep me logged in" button? I have a long email address (due to the provider not my name) and many sites now have this facility. Thanks Savvycircle :-)

@all have a great weekend o)

rose1001 • 16/03/2012 - 16:15

I'll get the hang of :o) eventually!!!!!!

blondette • 16/03/2012 - 18:37

Loving the Olay Sensitive Moisturiser so far. I had a breakout of pimply skin about a week ago but quickly realised that I was using too much product. It's quite rich and a little goes a long way & makes my face really nice & smooth. Back to normal now and I don't notice my usual dry skin patches that I get at the end of the day from our office environment - 80 degrees no joke - if it can cope with that it must be good!

Dellyw • 16/03/2012 - 18:52

I have checked with all my friends who i gave samples too and I have asked them simply what they think, and 4 out fo 5 think it is good 1 thought it was fab and my mum might be changing from anti blemish to this. I think this is fairly good.

twixmars • 16/03/2012 - 21:56

@ALL
Hope everyone has a fab weekend :D

jenny41 • 17/03/2012 - 09:09

All samples gone :( and only a couple of vouchers left. My skin is definately better now, its alot smoother and clearer looking. Many thanks for the chance to try this product. Have had very good feedback so far.

cornishmals • 17/03/2012 - 11:06

Well done Savvy Circle on a great project.Very impressed with the Olay package. Not only are my friends and collegues impressed with the samples and money off vouchers (good to see a good use by date voucher on the vouchers as we all know they love to lurk in the bottom of our bags for ages) BUT at least two of my friends have joined savvy circle as they want to spread the good word.

moonstonesea • 17/03/2012 - 17:18

Loved this project - I have terribly sensitive skin and after using this product for a couple of weeks, can honestly notice a difference. My skin is smoother and I have not reacted to the product at all, which in my book, is a total miracle. All my friends were really pleased to receive their free samples, so thank you very much Savvy Team for the opportunity to try and share this product :)

tjc011822 • 17/03/2012 - 19:01

Still love this product. Hasn't affected my sensitive skin and has left my skin feeling clean and refreshed. The staff at the Hospice have been raving about this product and have also been recommending it to some of their patients. I have noticed a reduction in the redness of my skin and would definitely recommend this product to people I know. I am just waiting for one more person to give me their feedback and then I have received all my feedback from the people that have tried out the Moisturiser.

Meertje • 17/03/2012 - 20:02

Well, having used the moisturiser now for 7 weeks, (in the morning only) I have to say I don't notice my skin is that different.

My skin feels really smooth when applying, and I think it is slightly less blotchy. However my skin is generally quite rosy, it hasn't improved that at all.

I also find i need about 2 pumps to moisturise my skin, maybe my skin is drier than I thought, or maybe I just need a slightly richer moisturiser.

I haven't had any problems with outbreaks or anything like that.

On balance although I do like the feel of the moisturiser on my skin I think I won't be using this Olay product for my face.

Thank you to the Savvy team for letting me try the product, and for the support at the beginnning.

fionalt • 17/03/2012 - 20:21

My moisturiser ran out this morning. Will I be buying more? No, I don't think so. I quite like it, even though it brought me out in spots a few times at the beginning, but feel that there are less expensive moisturisers out there that do a similar job. My other concern is that Procter and Gamble, the company that make Olay, use animal testing. I would much prefer, when I have a choice, to use a product that does not involve any animal cruelty.
I have enjoyed taking part.

Purplefairy • 17/03/2012 - 21:26

I have loved doing this project so far shame I accidently washed my money off coupons, at least 10 of my friends got a sample to try for themselves. I have nearly ran out of my bottle too and I have gotten out of the habit of using it every day, which is typical of me :)
I will be getting some more soon as I love Olay total effects for sensitive skin :D

Suezzyb • 18/03/2012 - 11:36

Still got some spots appearing , but seems a little better. Don't really think I'll buy this again though as need to get rid of the spots, and think it's a little too pricey. Nice packaging but there are less expensive products avilable that do the same thing and don't bring on the spots. Not a bad cream and I don't think Olay have done anytning wrong, just not fro me.

blueskier • 18/03/2012 - 15:23

I've used the product morning and night for a month, and it has run out. My skin is dry, it takes 3 pumps to do half my face and neck (I'm only doing it on one side of my face, not both), so it would have taken 6 pumps to to it normally, that's 12 pumps a day. It is quite expensive given that a bottle would only last me 2 weeks. My skin looks fine and glowing, I've had no adverse reactions, but I haven't noticed any magic either. On balance I feel it works about the same as my normal moisturiser. So will I buy it? Not unless it comes down in price to the same as other products.

Thanks to the Supersavvy team for all their support and their feedback. I really appreciate having been involved on this project and would love to do another one.

rose1001 • 18/03/2012 - 16:16

Happy Mothers Day everyone - how many of you received Ulay as a gift :-)

twixmars • 18/03/2012 - 16:48

@rose1001
ME! A whole range of Olay goodies :D

@All
I cannot believe we are nearly at the end of the project :(
It has been a great pleasure and yet again it has resulted in me finding a product that suits my needs. Thanks Olay and Savvy Circle.

colourqueen • 18/03/2012 - 18:12

Well, I've just returned from 2 weeks away in very hot weather (33 degrees) in India and Thailand. I must say that I think the Olay cream has kept my skin soft and unburnt! I didn't always put sunscreen on top so the Olay spf seems to have done its work. Thanks and well done Olay!

marskie • 18/03/2012 - 19:38

Hope everyone had a lovely Mothers Day today. Since started this project i have had some great feedback from my friends and family and a couple of people who did not get on with it. Its been great to be re-introduced to oil of olay and my skin is looking quite bright and fresh. I can confirm i have now went out and bought another bottle of the moisturiser although i had to travel far for it to use my coupon as i don't have a big tesco near me and my daughter has also bought a bottle too. I think my skin is liking the moisturiser more now but i will not be using it as a night cream as i still do not think it is rich enough so my bottle should last longer. My daughter also thought the lines on my forehead looked much much more smoother although i did not think their was any difference. Its been a great pleasure doing this project and thankyou savvycircle for the chance to be included and the experience of using oil of olay again xxx

blueskier • 19/03/2012 - 08:07

Reading this blog, people differ on whether the formula is suffiently "rich" for dry skins. We were asked inititally if we had sensitive skin, but not about dry skin. Would it be a good idea to include this question on the final questionnaire? Those with sensitive but normal/oily skin are raving about it, those with sensitive and dry skin say it is not creamy enough. This might help analyse the results better?

SassyChick • 19/03/2012 - 09:01

No Olay for Mother's Day but plenty of other nice gifts! Still getting on ok with my moisturiser; definitely think my skin is smoother and plumper, although have had some spots for the last couple of weeks around the chin/neck which is unusually. Have been chasing friends for the return of last few questionnaires. Mixed reviews from friends; the older ones seem more impressed than the younger ones - not sure what that says!

LornaMM • 19/03/2012 - 11:56

Elouise stopped me today at the school gates and said that over the weekend 2 friends had said how good she was looking and asked what her secret was! She did decide to share it with them, so there should be 2 more sold in Cambridge this week!

dani • 19/03/2012 - 15:24

@twixmars: Pleasure is all ours!

selectively-mine • 20/03/2012 - 07:47

One lady who had a sample from me couldn't use it as it gave her spots, but she has extremely sensitive skin and can't wear normal makeup etc. She passed her sample onto someone else, and I hope to hear back from them.
Otherwise everyone has liked it and no one else had a bad reaction, including me, which is great because my skin generally objects to wearing moisturisers etc.
Like other people I haven't noticed any amazing transformations, but I think the product is good and does what it says. I have used it daily with caution but have continued happy with the results.

tigger1tiger • 20/03/2012 - 11:15

although i missed out on this trial my sister in law got accepted and gave me a sample to try. Im not one for using creams and make up but this made me feel fresh and gave my skin a nice sheen.

richgirl1 • 20/03/2012 - 11:17

i purchased 2 more bottles from my supermarket as it was on special offer. i was told by my partner that was defeating the purpose of getting a bargain. it took me ages to get him to understand that it was more benificial as it would be full price the following week...men.....who needs them when we have olay..

jancat • 20/03/2012 - 20:04

It was soooo much fun being able to explain to a collegue about Olay no longer being the pink liquid ULAY - but yes the fact her Grandma used to swear by meant she really had to give it a go - RESULT! she loved it

cmharrison • 20/03/2012 - 20:11

This cream is soooo lovely and absorbs very quickly. I would have liked more information before we started using with other creams but after a little trial and error, I have now incorporated into my skin routine and it works very well with both my extra dry day cream and extra dry night cream and with serum (if I am feeling really good!!) :)

luckyin2012 • 21/03/2012 - 06:34

All the people I've given a sample too have said they loved it except for my Mum - she thought it was great at first but after a few days use it irritated her skin-wouldn't really say this was Olay's fault as she's got super-sensitive skin-shame though I really hoped I'd found an answer for her - boo.

Everyone else really loves it - including me-I bought 3 bottles at the Tesco reduced price, further reduced with the vouchers!! Gave one to my sister, one was for Mum but looks like I'll have to have that one now (every cloud!!). Happy to say this product suits me so well I'm really happy with it and intend to keep on using it!!

I must say I have noiced a difference with my skin as it ghas a more even tome and even when I have felt very tired, (Fridays) my skin has not reflected this as much as it used to. Overall with the fact my skin feels very good to touch and does not dry out during the day I am very pleased with this product, as are most people who have tried it from the samples I have given out.

I have noticed a huge difference in my skin in a postive way. I have used the method shown in the pack on my mum and she is now trying every day to use the method shown, I also think she has used some of my sample after finishing her own.
