Together, we’ve polled our friends with around eleven thousand product research sheets and sent in over twelve thousand conversation reports (and counting). We’ve submitted plenty of snapshots to the project gallery and commented enthusiastically on the project blog.

Eaten… plenty of meals together.
We spread the word by cooking dinner, whether for a group of friends or for family, with Annabel Karmel’s recipes or our own favourites. Then we put Fairy Platinum to the test afterwards!

Voted… in our first-ever photo contest.
The results are in, and it looks like Savvy Circle member oscargrouch and her baked chicken pan have won an extra-special Fairy prize pack. But good news, everyone: the Fairy team has decided to send small prize packs to the other nine contestants too! Congratulations to them, and thanks to all who submitted before-and-after pictures.

@all – How did you like this first Savvy Circle photo contest?

We heard whispers that one Savvy Circle member had used the tablets to clean her Jacuzzi. That got us thinking: what else might we use Fairy Platinum for besides dishwashing? So, on the half-time survey, we asked,

What other uses have you found for Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets?

and it turns out, 107 had used Fairy Platinum for something other than cleaning and degreasing our dishes and dishwashers. It was good fun reading the answers! Here are the most common ones.

Those bright pink “other uses” were pretty interesting! For example…

Unblocking smelly drains.

They remove red wine stains from material!

I have put my dishcloth in the dishwasher whilst doing the dishes. The cloth comes out lovely and clean and fresh for doing the “bits” that have to be hand washed.

Accidentally got oil on the block paving outside so I mixed a dishwasher tablet in a bucket of hot water and brushed it into the block paving…when I rinsed it away, the oil was gone.

Caught my brother using the dishwasher for his motorbike parts, he claims they are the best he’s used as grease came off first time. Mum opened dishwasher after the parts were removed and she said how nice the new tablets made the washer smell, had to leave the room laughing.

@all – Needless to say, we’re quite impressed. Have you thought of any more uses?

By now, we’ve all used Fairy Platinum in a range of situations and with plenty of different people. We’ve shared tips and tricks for getting the most out of our dishwashers and for achieving a grease-free filter – meaning we’ve got a lot to talk about!

Our project handbook provided you with a message to spread, but you no doubt have your own fantastic ways to let your friends and families know about Fairy Platinum’s unique cleaning abilities.

We’ll go through the submissions and reveal the candidates in a slideshow on the blog next week. Then, all Savvy Circle members will be able to log in and decide which before-and-after Fairy Platinum photo is the favourite, most-dramatic reveal.

The taker of that photo will win a package full of Fairy Platinum and other dishwashing-related goodies specially assembled by the Fairy team, who’ve been delighted by the project and would like to thank everyone for their stories and photos.

@ all – The Fairy team is delighted with how the project is going so far, and would like to remind everyone that they’re eager to receive feedback on Fairy Platinum via the half-time survey, which will close at 5 pm Monday!

Out of those of us who have thus far filled out the half-time survey, 94.4% of us say that we would recommend Fairy Platinum to a friend with a dishwasher. Lots of us have obviously already done so! But what words do we use when we talk about Fairy Platinum?

This is a word cloud, which is in my opinion a more fun way of representing data than a chart or graph is. Basically, the more often a term appeared in our answers to the question,

What brief statement do you use to tell your friends what makes Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets special?

the larger it appears in this set of words. It makes sense that, in speaking to friends about Fairy Platinum, we’d tend to focus on its “clean”!

A few Savvy Circle members have sent in photographs and conversation reports that are so vivid, it’s like we’re able to taste the results. For instance, tux1977 and his wife spent an evening with the Easy Beef Casserole.

The meal was delicious and we both thoroughly enjoyed it, the casserole dish was suitably messy! After running the dishwasher cycle, all the dishes came out sparkling, no residues or baked-on remnants on the casserole dish.

Savvy Circle member Melson created Annabel Karmel’s turkey burgers for her husband, who was apparently quite happy to be eating burgers on a weeknight. We’re impressed by how much Melson’s burgers resembled the picture in the recipe book – take a look for yourself!

The lucky colleagues of Savvy Circle members Melson and Candyqueen26.

It seems lots of us have been busily trying out and spreading the word about Fairy Platinum at work. Savvy Circle member Welshy624 has taken a tricky approach:

I sneakily replaced my work’s old dishwasher tablet with a Fairy (Platinum) one after the lunchtime rush in our staff room… Whilst my colleague was emptying it she commented about how the dishes were actually clean for a change and that was the first time in a long time she hadn”t had to put the dish washer back on again to clean up some leftover marks. She also said it was smelling lovely.

I then decided to fess up and told everyone about my wonderful project.

Cool that they noticed! Savvy Circle member Wendyx and her colleagues have plans involving the clever use of office supplies.

One girl from work is going to use them in the work dishwasher and leave the booklet by the dishwasher and the whiteboard. On the whiteboard we are asking people to tally if they have noticed a difference from the usual detergent!

Last week, we focused on tips for stacking and loading a dishwasher; today, we’ll share the Fairy team’s top hints for avoiding common stains and residue.

Orange and pink discolorations on plastic surfaces generally occur when Tupperware is used to store red-coloured food, or when those food particles are dislodged from other dishes during washing. Fairy tabs contain a high surfuctant level to keep red stains in the wash, not on dishes; however, to really keep Tupperware pristine, scrape excess food off all dishes before they’re loaded into the machine.

Tarnished silverware occurs because of air oxidation. To prevent silverware being exposed to air, keep it in a closed box or drawer. Tarnishing can also occur when silver oxide reacts with foods like egg, so if you’re washing the good silver, it’s best to remove food residue from cutlery before running the dishwasher.

Savvy Circle member kiltymasher cleaned her coffee glass with the help of Fairy Platinum.

Coffee and tea stains – those sticky brown rings around cups and saucers – usually happen when cups sit for awhile before being washed. (We’ve all been there; it seems they’re easy to forget!) If you won’t be running the dishwasher for awhile, give them a quick rinse before sticking them inside.

Spotting and filming on glassware occurs in hard water areas, i.e. much of the UK. To defeat those spots, use plenty of dishwasher salt and be sure not to overdose with rinse aid.

@all – What’s your favourite tip for stain-free dishes?

We can use the insider information we’ve acquired from the project handbook to tell our friends and family about these dishwasher tablets, then ask them to take a second or two to fill in a research sheet, even if they haven’t yet tested Fairy Platinum for themselves.

We’ve been asking some good questions over the past few weeks via email, conversation report, and blog comment… and now it’s the Fairy team‘s turn to deliver their expert answers.

• Sometimes my drinking glasses emerge from the dishwasher with dried debris and residue on them. How do I avoid this?

  Fairy Platinum has been designed to provide great results on all of your items including glasses. If you are experiencing residue on glasses, check that the dishwasher filter is clean. Also, follow the dishwasher manufacturer’s instructions for loading the dishwasher. This means loading glasses on the upper tray and ensuring the spray arm is not obstructed. If the problem continues, contact the dishwasher manufacturer.

• If I don’t have a dishwasher – but would still like to test Fairy Platinum – is it okay to simply put my dishes in the sink along with a tab?

  The tablets are designed specifically for use in a dishwasher so should not be used for hand washing. Luckily, Fairy Platinum is available as a hand dish liquid, and offers “the power of an overnight soak in just ten minutes”.

• If I’m using Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets, can I wash lead crystal glassware in the dishwasher without clouding it, or wash plates with thin gold rims around the edges without fading them?

  Crystal glasses and gold-edged plates should always be washed by hand with Fairy Hand Dish Liquid. The composition of crystal means that it can be susceptible to damage with washing in a dishwasher. The same goes for gold-edged plates, as the high heat of dishwashers may fade the edging.

• Do the tablets remove limescale?

  Fairy is very effective at preventing lime-scale build up but does not remove it. To remove limescale we recommend using Fairy Dishwasher Cleaner.

Whilst waiting for our Annabel Karmel recipe books and vouchers to arrive in the post, we’ve been doing a fab job of drumming up enthusiasm among our friends and relatives.

Some of us have taken our Fairy Platinum tablets into work and generously shared them with the office dishwasher, but Savvy Circle member Benjaminday went one further:

I present the daytime show on Touch FM, Rugby FM and Banbury Sound and have a combined weekly listenership of 140,000 listeners.

Mentioned the product trial online and that I had become a ‘product tester’. I mentioned that I’d been sent a trial of dishwasher tablets and used them for the first time last night – and that I was very impressed with the results.

Impressive! Savvy Circle member Betty2012 took her Fairy Platinum tablets along to her sister’s house and organised what must have been a fab Saturday night meal, specially designed to put the tablets to the test.

(…) We had some quite sticky dishes like spare ribs, pot sticker dumplings and bananas in a toffee sauce with ice cream.

My sister did a load after we had eaten and we showed them how sparklingly clean everything was – even the rib tray… (Our guest) Ian’s since reported back that he used (Fairy Platinum) after a huge roast dinner and, like me, was extremely impressed with the results.

We’ve done excellently so far – I can’t wait to hear what we’ll do with our extra recipe books!

Tips for Loading

The most crucial part of loading one’s dishwasher is to be sure that the mechanical arm at the top isn’t blocked. If the arm can’t move, dishes won’t get clean!

Therefore, glasses – especially tall ones – should be put into the dishwasher upside down at an angle. This is a bit of a tricky business: if tall glasses block the arm, nothing will get clean, but if they’re set on their sides, water may pool inside them and leave stains.

Mixing silver and steel cutlery in the basket can cause rusting, so be sure to keep them separate.

Tips for Emptying

When emptying the dishwasher, be sure to avoid scratching the squeaky-clean dishes. China items should be removed one by one so that they don’t rub against each other and leave marks.

I know it’s not always possible to unload the dishwasher immediately after running it. However, it’s important to make this a priority when washing cutlery that tends to rust, since it could be affected by the moist atmosphere in the dishwasher.

Unloading the bottom basket first can help avoid getting pesky drips from above on the bottom dishes.

Last week, as kits were being prepared, the computer at the distributors’ (probably eagerly anticipating its Jubilee weekend) experienced a glitch. As a result, most of us received only one recipe book instead of ten!

We’re sorry this happened, but rest assured the remaining ones will be sent out as soon as possible so that we can really get started spreading the word about Fairy Platinum. We’ll keep you posted as to when they should arrive at your home!

Savvy Circle member nuttynatty100 shared Fairy Platinum with her boyfriend’s family at a barbeque this weekend. She says,

I gave the product to my boyfriend’s mum as basically we eat at theirs a lot so they use their dishwasher loads!! Having the talk in the kitchen in front of the dishwasher was the best place and with 5 women was the best group as we all know women do all the cleaning!!

@all: What are your first thoughts and opinions about the cleaning power of Fairy Platinum?

Fairy Platinum washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets have received a stylish Jubilee-themed makeover to mark the occasion, and are already available to buy in stores.

With street parties and celebrations lined up all over the country for the holiday, dirty dishes are going to pile up quickly – and that’s where Fairy Platinum comes in. Together we want to use Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets to help clean up after our celebrations, in order to spread the word and to showcase the cleaning power of Fairy to friends, neighbours and family.

As always, we’re excited to collect all our experiences with Fairy Platinum, so let us know how you get on – and most of all have fun!

@all – What are your plans? Where and how will you use Fairy Platinum during the celebrations?

To save energy, Hailes advises using fewer dishes: one plate for two courses, for example. And she says that you shouldn’t rinse your dishes before putting them into the dishwasher, as “this is not only unnecessary, but creates a significant amount of water waste – it’s even worse if the water is hot“.

Also, fully load the dishwasher before running it, without cramming it so full that you have to run it twice.

For greenest cleaning, use your dishwasher’s eco mode (“eco” stands for either “economy” or “ecology” mode) since, environmental benefits aside, you can save roughly 30% by using eco mode. As Hailes says, soft tablets like Fairy Platinum are more suitable for the eco mode setting than hard tablets, as they dissolve more readily in colder water and with shorter cycles. They also use less packaging than hard tablets, as they don’t require extra wrappers.

When ordering a new dishwasher, look for one that’s A+-rated for energy and water efficiency – or even higher. And when placing it in your kitchen, be sure not to put it next to your fridge, as the heat from your dishwasher will mean your fridge will have to work harder to compensate.

@all- How do you and your family work to help the environment in your everyday activities? Got any green cleaning tips?

Since the Fairy name first appeared in 1898 on a bar of soap, generations of families have used Fairy products in their homes. Many of us remember Fairy featuring in our childhoods – along with iconic Fairy television adverts – and continue to use them in our own homes today.

Do you remember singing along to  “Hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face, with mild green Fairy Liquid”? Perhaps when you were a little one you assisted with the dishes. Some of us may recall that unique Fairy softness on our hands, or splashing around in the bubbles as we ‘helped’ clean up!

We’d love for you to share your memories with us, and also to let us know how you’ve carried on the Fairy tradition in your own homes.

In this project, our aim is not only to test out and get the word out about Fairy Platinum automatic dishwashing tabs, but to throw some really lovely dinners. If you’re interested in being part of the team of 10,000 testers, be sure to fill out an application if you haven’t already!

Orchestrate a great evening

The first step in planning a dinner party is to figure out how many people your dinner table can fit, then go from there. It’s fine to have the usual group round, but sometimes it can be interesting to invite a combination of old friends and new acquaintances. Ring them up to invite them, and while you’ve got them on the line, be sure to ask about any dietary restrictions.

Plan the food and mood

When planning the menu, stick to the tried and tested – it’s best to cook dishes you know you do well, which can be prepared beforehand and simply popped in the oven.

On the day of the party, have fun making your place look magical! Candles create a lovely ambiance, and soft music in the background will dull any awkward silences.

Create great conversation

To keep things light and break the ice, start off by serving appetisers and cocktails. It’s okay to have guests assist by collecting empty glasses or helping you chop in the kitchen – you’ll be grateful for the help, and they’ll like having something to do.

End on a smooth note

After dinner is finished, invite your guests to help bring the dishes to be washed.
