Rose Blush & Peony – what do the men think?

It is obvious that the Bold 2in1 Rose Blush & Peony detergent gel has been specifically designed to catch the attention of women, from the floral bottle to the pink gel and ‘feminine’ scent.

However, that definitely does not mean that it’s just a women-only product, as has been proven by many of our fellow Savvy Circle members in the project team!

Thanks to Savvy Circle member’s Scarybird_Rachel, holt12 and ZooneeBaby for the great pictures above!

We’d love to hear whether the men in your life appreciated the new Bold fragrance during our project, or whether they found it just a little bit too girly! Going off a lot of your comments, it seems that a lot of them are also big fans of the scent:

My husband keeps commented on how much he liked the smell of Bold ,I just wish he liked it enough to try putting the iron on the clothes, when he brought it in or took it out the dryer. Savvy Circle member starship

I absolutely love this the fragrance lasts so long – I even decided to wash the curtains in my bedroom, they didn’t need it but the smell is to die for. My husband even commented that he hasn’t had to wear his body spray as his clothes are smelling so nice – bonus! Savvy Circle member TomOwenMum

My husband is loving his fresh smelling shirts these days. Never mentioned a word before about my old detergent. Looks like I’ll have to get some more Bold 2in1! Savvy Circle member ruby-rex

After 35 years of marriage this is the first time my husband ever commented on the scent of a washing detergent but unfortunately didnt offer to help with the laundry -Bold 2n1 certainly got his vote

As ive previously stated on the other blogs, my teenage son i very impressed. He hates any strong overpowering flowery smells on his clothes, but this is just right and makes a stroppy teenager very happy! :)

I cant say my man has actually ever commented on the smell of the laundry but my mother in law is always commenting on how lovely our washing smells so that makes up for the lack of interest on my other halfs part.lol

My husband hasn’t noticed any difference. When asked he said that my laundry always smells fresh and clean.

my husband liked the smell it reminded him he said of when he was young a sort of lovely but old fashioned scent from yester year. Moaned about stubborn stains not being removed but liked it being a 2 in 1

My partner is so used to my washing smelling great cus i’m a bit of a fabric conditioner freak lol. He thought that the smell wasn’t great but i think thats cus i normally use extra fabric conditioner. The cleaning power of it is good though.

My boyfriend commented on how much he liked the perfume of the Bold Rose Blush and Peony gel back at the beginning when I started using it.He seemed to like the gorgeous fragrance on his clothes and underwear and when we got into bed he also remarked on how lovely the bed linen smelt.
I think that it is a great all round fragrance because it isn’t too over powering, just clean and elegant really.Yet for us girlies it is feminine and very pleasing to use.
I also have some male friends that are now very happy to be using this instead of their usual detergent. They have been well and truly converted.Well done to Bold for that!!
Actually some of my female friends said that they have now noticed some of their partners offering to do the laundry,so that can’t be such a bad thing!

  • It is not new, in my line of work, for men to appreciate laundry liquids. I litter pick, in a mostly male atmosphere, and the men I have met have taken a great interest in their washing. The scent of the liquids has been incorporated into their own experiments into insect repelants . ( Is there a particular scent that repels wasps? ) and whether the smell is strong enough to overpower the litter they pick. Litter picking is very environmental, and even though the men wouldn’t admit it, they appreciate the smell of flowers more than most men, because of their chosen profession. Bold is up there with their favorites.
I think their second choice of scent, if they could dictate a perfume, would be the smell of cut grass. Do you have one that smells of lawn?

  • 31.10.11 - 12:36

    by: Savvy Circle member Susieblue1

Bold is a great choice if going away and saves on the packing, but it does seem to make himself have a flare up of his sensitive skin. Which is a shame as the smell is” lush” as my girls say. Any chance to make a sensitive skin version?

    by: Savvy Circle member bertiebob

My husband was not so keen on the smell, I think it was a little too different from our previous washing powder. Perhaps a little too floral for him.

  • 31.10.11 - 13:02

    by: Savvy Circle member sabrelad

My husband likes the smell of this detergent however his stepdad came the other day and said its too feminine for him. He works in a factory full of men and said he wouldn’t be happy wearing his work clothes washed in it because of the scent. I however love it and would just wash them in it anyway ;-)

Hi my partner actually commented on the scent of the laundry the other day, i nearly died of shock!! He doesn’t usually say a word but after i’d used Bold on our bed linen he said ” mmm this smells really nice and isn’t overpowering!” WOW

My partner didn’t mind the smell in the house but not on his clothes. He wouldn’t buy it because of the pink & girlie packaging. My Dad doesn’t like it at all, too girlie for him even the smell

My son absolutely loves the smell, he thinks I have been washing the blanket on his bed daily as the smell lasts for more than a day! Not sure my husband has noticed but he tends not to smell his clothes that much!1

  • 31.10.11 - 14:15

    by: Savvy Circle member axwhale

My husband never notices anything much , but I think you must have the fragrance level just right , because the only thing he does have an opinion of is when I spray my perfume and he complains it makes his eyes water and gets at the back of his throat. Typical man such a fuss. I don’t over do the perfume either. So well done to you really , Im using Bold with no complaints from my family .

  • 31.10.11 - 14:19

Thank you Bold 2 in 1 you have converted my son , he has never done any washing up till now, when my Bold arrived he wanted to know what it was and why I had got it so I told him all about the new prouduct , while I was out he sorted his washing out and yes he even put it in the machine and started it off, something I didnt relise he knew how to lol, when it was all done and dryed he said it smelt great and soft that is a lot coming from a young man of 21 , he doesnt normally give any thing a praise but Bold you managed to get one from him thank you for a great prouduct and making a new man out of my son lol i can sit back now he can do all his own washing lol .

6 out of 15 male partners/husbands/boyfriends wouldn’t wear anything washed in new Bold 2 in 1 peony and rose blush!!

  • 31.10.11 - 14:46

    by: Savvy Circle member 194221aph

9 out of 15 boyfriends/partners/husbands couldn’t care less what their OHs wash their clothes in as long as they’re clean.

  • 31.10.11 - 14:50

    by: Savvy Circle member 194221aph

Not one of the 15 male partners I surveyed actively liked Bold 2 in 1 peony and rose blush.

Does that mean that on the whole men are not susceptive to perfumes? Or that they only respond favourably to perfume on their women?!

  • 31.10.11 - 14:51

    by: Savvy Circle member AZERTYQWERTY

I don’t think I have ever before talked so much about a laundry product to my friends and family or so frequently smelled my washing before hanging out, after going on the line, after being tumble dried and during wear. I have previously used Bold 2in1 Liquitabs, Crystal Rain and White Lily for bed linen and I find this a stronger and longer lasting scent than the Rose and Peony.
None of the males I asked have said they wouldn’t wear clothes washed in the Rose and Peony but they did think it was a feminine scent and would prefer something more manly. However they were quite happy that towels and bed linen should smell more feminine.

  • 31.10.11 - 14:55

    by: Savvy Circle member mummybee

Have to admit that my husband hasn’t made a single comment about the washing while I’ve been using the Bold 2 in 1 Peony & Rose Blush. I did think he might comment on the fragrance but no, just keeps on wearing his clean clothes without comment as usual! Men eh!

Talking to friends the other day – my friends husband said he was very impressed by the cleaning power and nice scent from this product and may well buy again.

  • 31.10.11 - 15:05

    by: Savvy Circle member l00byl00

Unfortunately my husband didn’t like the smell when the washing was still damp. Stragely though he changed his mind when he smelt the dry clothes…..wonder why? I sort of understand what he meant with the damp smell but was really glad he liked it later or I may have had to re-wash everything!

My boyfriend kept trying to take the sample bottle home with him! He is very conscious of looking and smelling nice for work, he’s a telephone engineer and goes into people’s houses and work places daily and he’s always concerned he looks clean (worse than some ladies lol) he has really enjoyed using Bold 2in1 Rose Blush & Peony detergent and particularly loves how his clothes smell out of the dryer!

  • My husband initially commented on how nice the product fragrance was when I first received the kit, but I must admit he has not commented since even though the fragrance permeates the house when I use it, even the garden when I hang the washing out, and of course on the clothes he wears … oh well, you can’t have everything!

My husband loves the smell of new Bold 2 in 1. He has never commented when using previous brands, but he says this one smells lovely and fresh. Not keen on the fragrance of the towels before they were dried, but now says we should stick to this one! He even went to the supermarket and bought some!!!

I have two teenage lads living at my place. Strange to say they are (if possible) more obsessed with the new Bold than I am! To the degree that at the weekend , one of them came back with a new bottle of Rose and Peony and the other came back with another bottle of Bold in the same range. And for once they are doing so much washing, the washing machine is about to have a fit and give up!

  • 31.10.11 - 15:47

My son has not noticed any difference as far as I aware in the smell but did say it felt a little nicer on his skin than some other times

    My husband didn’t notice…

  • 31.10.11 - 15:54

    by: Savvy Circle member ladyauriol

We have a new washing machine, and I’ve been showing my husband how to use it today. He looked confused at the ‘squirt the liquid in the cap’ method (he’s used to the powder in the drawer), and looked a little suspicious at the liquid announcing that it was ‘a bit pink, isn’t it?’

He’s decided it smells OK now the laundry is drying, but prefers the Bold lavender and chamomile – I think that’s a little less ‘girly’.

  • 31.10.11 - 15:57

    by: Savvy Circle member Smiler

I work in a varied environment, male, female and different nationalities. The younger men (with young families) were particularly interested if it was Non Bio, fragrance coming second. Older males, it was fragrance first. Interestingly, cost or cleaning power weren’t in the first 2 priorities.
My husband remarked on the clothes in the tumble drier – the heat bringing out the fragrance.

  • 31.10.11 - 16:21

    by: Savvy Circle member browngirl64

My husband thinks the Bold 2in1 smells great and lasts a really long time. He doesn’t notice the smell of the other brands I use so it must be doing something right!

  • 31.10.11 - 16:54

    by: Savvy Circle member babe38

When my brother came to visit the other day he even commented on how nice the house smelt and how the hand towel that he had just dried his hands on smelt very clean and was particularly soft.
He doesn’t normally take much notice of things like that,so I was pleased when he happened to comment on it.
And the hairdressers where I go have started to wash their towels and gowns in it now as myself and someone who works there recommended it to them.So I recognise that nice fragrance when they use one of their towels to dry my hair. They also like the fact that you don’t have to use a separate fabric softener.I think that that is a good point too,but if say Bold or Lenor ever wanted to bring out a softener in that great fragrance then I think that it would go down a real treat.I am more than happy with the Bold as it is though. It is a good quality product.

  • 31.10.11 - 17:40

    by: Savvy Circle member Lexylads

Like a lot of blokes, mine has little/no sense of smell… but I have to say, I prefer the smell of him when he is wearing clothes washed in it.

  • 31.10.11 - 17:48

    by: Savvy Circle member Jonquilly

My hubby likes the scent, but we both find it a very subtle one which usually smells more when laundry is on the radiator than when we are actually wearing clothes or using towels. It IS there, just very subtle. Hubby had no qualms about me using the detergent when I did the laundry, unlkie a male neighbour who took one look at the pink bottle and said it was was for girls!

  • 31.10.11 - 18:41

    by: Savvy Circle member Rose19

My husband sometimes does the washing for us and whilst we have been trying out this product he has found that it cleans really well but he does not think that the smell lasts a long time. I have to say that I agree with him.

  • 31.10.11 - 18:42

    by: Savvy Circle member 2928helen

my husband didn’t really like the smell he thought it was too floral and didn’t enjoy having his shirts smell so feminie
He didn’t however, mind it on towels and bedding!

    by: Savvy Circle member Jenga1977

I left some washing over a clothes airer at my house. I returned after being away a couple of days and the smell of the new rose blush & peony was apparent as soon as I walked through the door and it was a pleasant fresh smell without being too overpowering. It was certainly more noticeable after a couple of days of the clothes being stuck on an airer. However, nobody has commented on the smell of my clothes and most of my colleagues are very observant and do pass comments if someone has a nice or new perfume on so slightly disappointed they haven’t noticed. I can’t say that the cleaning ability is any better than other products though which is the main reason I would use it, not just for the smell

  • 31.10.11 - 19:17

my husband and 2 sons were worried about the flowery scent in the bottle. However when added to the washing machine, the clothes were not so feminine, so they were pleased!

I live on my own so no immediate man to ask. However one of my sons last week borrowed some bedding for a friends stay over at his place and made comments about how good the bedding smelled when he took it out of the space bags. I did point out that was the washing liquid I gave him vouchers for….Men??

  • 01.11.11 - 09:09

    by: Savvy Circle member fluffymo

Strange you should ask ‘what the men think’ an amazing phenomenon happened over the weekend. My partner is a dinosaur and seems to think the house work washing etc must be done by little elves who come during the night when we are asleep. When my bottle of Bold 2in1 was used up I went out and bought another, so I have been using this washing detergent for over 8 weeks now, but on saturday morning HE asked if I was using a new detergent because his socks smelt nice when putting them on. !!!!!!!!!

The 3 men in my home have enjoyed the fragrance of the product. 2 of them are in the army so at least they start out the day/exercise by smelling nice. Not so good when they return!

  • 01.11.11 - 10:24

    by: Savvy Circle member Laura75

That’s interesting that so many of you have managed to engage men in a discussion of this product. My husband was my practice “guinea pigs” so I forced him to engage in the market research process. He was happy to say that the aroma was pleasant and that the clothing came out soft and looking like it didn’t need much ironing. However, he also countered that by saying he didn’t really care about scent when it comes to detergent. I found that comment was true of most of the men I surveyed: the aroma did not seem to be important to them whereas it was one of the top priorities for the women I surveyed. I did find that the men who did their own ironing responded well to how soft the laundry was after using the Bold.

I asked my sons (who are both in there 20′s) and they both said the fragrance was too sweet smelling for them and asked me to do there washing in a separate one from mine and my daughters :-$ they don’t normally comment on how there washing smells but i made a point of asking them to take notice of it while i was doing this survey they prefer the other Bold one that i used previous

Unfortunately living in a house with three males I tend not to have any remarks on the laundry, but this Bold has caused a few comments. My boys like it on the towels, but have told me I’m not to wash their bed sheets in it again as they find it too sweet and sickly for prolonged periods (and a bit too girly).

My partner likes it as he remarked that my other washing detergents never normally have much fragrance.

My husband has also commented on the fragrance of bold 2 in 1 on his shirts and the bedding, he asked me what conditioner had i changed to, when i said i didnt use any conditioner or dryer sheets it was just the smell of the new Bold 2 in 1, he was well inpressed. walked away with raised eyebrows!!

My husband has also commented on the really nice fragrance on his clothes, bedding and towels and told me he would be happy if I used Bold all the time!

  • What do the MALE SPECIES think, well they think its too GURRRLLLYYY!!!

  • No seriously they do,I have to admit it is a feminine scent it is very flowery.

  • 01.11.11 - 14:51

    by: Savvy Circle member jillsa

Mine didn’t like it at all.
    Shape of bottle – awkward
    lid of bottom – dribbly
    colour – too pink
    smell – too girly

His comment this week was “good it’s finished” when he saw the empty bottle going into the recycling.

  • OMG thats what my brother said

My partner loves it. He thinks we smell like apples at the minute using this detergent?! He obviously likes apples :-) He hasn’t commented on the bottle shape or colour of the gel, I really don’t think those things affect him or his decision in buying at all. If it cleans his clothes and smells good he’s a happy chappy!

My husband and 16 & 8 year old sons were, initially, rather more suspicious of the Rose and Peony Bold than my 14 year old twin daughters and their 6 year-old sister! But they were ALL really appreciative of the calming fresh fragrance on their towels and bedding. My husband was remarked on the product’s effectiveness at improving the aroma and general atmosphere in the utility room (which doubles as our dogs’ night quarters!!!). Aside from the fragrance, our 8-year-old remarked spontaneously how beautifully bright and clean his football kit looked, and actually asked if I had bought him new shorts. To my shame, it is clearly some time since they were quite so white :-/

Others have said they’ve not noticed any difference from their own products. I’ve not noticed much difference myself but have enjoyed taking part in the survey.

I have got my dad using it and he says he doesn’t mind that the washing gel is pink as it just goes in the machine and the fragrance is a subtle, delicate scent that he actual quite likes it on his clothes as it makes them have that just washed fragrance all the time and not strong enough to make his clothes smell feminine so another Bold 2in1 convert!!

My partner does like the fragrance, says it reminds him of me when I am away :-) . It’s also so easy for him to use – I no longer get the texts saying which powder shall I use or which liquid and which compartment does it go in! Which means he does the washing more :-)

My boyfriend has a very smelly job and thankfully the smell of this Bold sticks to his work shirts and offsets the smell of pigs a little bit. So he likes it and so do I! Although I did have to explain how to use the gel to him as he was confused by not putting it in the draw, bless.

@Gunlet: It’s good to know that it makes even the smelliest of clothing smell nice :)

@all: It’s great to see that men love the scent too. Have they commented on the smell?

My other half liked the scent on our bedding and bath towels, but found the scent on his clothes a little bit too strong & feminine. He works at a Fire station and was concerned at smelling too girly!

The smell is nice but it does not get the cloths as clean as the usual bold so overall disappointing.

Nice smell my partner loves the smell so do I but the cleaning of the cloths is poor.

I fully agree with these two comments, the smell is nice but not quite strong enough for how we like it and as said above the cleaning quality is not that good

After mine realised that you didn’t have to add conditioner he really liked the smell and also the condition of his his clothes (not a good idea adding conditioner unless you want it to smell like wee!!!)

My boyfriend thinks I smell great having used this stuff and the other day I asked him to help me get the washing off the line and he almost jumped at the chance. he also sniffed one of my T-Shirts off the line and asked me what washing powder I use!!!

I think if his mum had heard him she would have fainted! He’s a new customer for sure!

My husband thinks the smell is great on the bed linen and was impressed that it still had a fresh washed smell a few nights later ( even wiith his stinky feet).

My husband had noticed that the towels were smelling a lot fresher and has commented several times on how much nicer they smelt since the trial started. He actually noticed when I used up the last of the detergent I had left over from before the trial as they didn’t smell the same so looks like Bold 2 in 1 Rose Blush & Peony has had a lasting effect on him just like it’s lasting fragrance.

My son totally surprised me the other day when he actually commented on the fragrance of his clothes, and actually asked which of the two laundry detergents that were out I’d used as he liked it so much and wanted to use it for some washing he was doing. Normally, he’ll just pick up whatever’s to hand. In fact, he’s never ever commented on the fragrance of his clothes!

My husband has never taken any notice of what washing product I have used before, but he commented when I used Bold, he said he really liked how fresh his clothes were smelling and when he opened up his drawers he could smell it. Nice of him to notice I do the washing for a change!!

My partner noticed the smell when we came in the door, which is unusual because he doesn’t notice much unless it hits him with some degree of force!
Perhaps that could be the next advert…..
The kids loved it too. It makes them feel very settled.

Nearly at the end of my washing liquid now but have liked the scent and so has my partner (doesn’t usually notice). It hasn’t lasted much on our clothes after drying which is a shame because it smells so nice. Has got everything clean and I’ve liked that you can just put a small amount in the washer and it’s done. It’s so easy to do even my partner can manage it and do the washing :-) . No residue or having to put conditioner in too which is a bonus. Bottle is small and compact so doesn’t take up much space in cupboard.

Overall, good product that you don’t need to use a lot of to get a good result. Doesnt take up a lot of space in cupboard due to compact packaging and no need for conditioner. Smells nice, gets clothes clean and fresh and I would buy it in future

I’m afraid that my husband really disliked the scent of this product and made me switch! I however loved it but not sure how I’ll do the washes now to satisfy us both!
